Final Fantasy XIV
Summary
The Warrior of Light's luck comes through once more in Eureka.
For once, the Warrior of Light felt like nothing special; just another body in the crowd, waiting. The crowd was anticipatory and tense; some were jumping about eagerly while others stood in stoic silence. Even in the howl of the blizzard around them, one couldn’t help but notice that… thing… in the mid-distance away. “Cassie”, they called her, if it was a her–no one knew for sure, and she certainly wasn’t telling. She wiggled and writhed in front of the crowd, giving off a putrid smell. It was a wonder anyone wanted to get close to her.
A minute passed, then two. At the third minute, the crowd charged, as if they all heard a silent war cry. Some hacked, others slashed, another pummeled his fists. The hero in their midst had a thought: this is no way to treat a lady, and yet joined in on the massacre.
With a shuddering sigh, the giant morbol collapsed. One of her tendrils, curled tightly, landed near the Warrior’s feet; bending down, the hero gently uncurled the tendril to find it had been wrapped around… an earring.
The Warrior crouched even lower, pressing a kiss against the tendril, and whispered, “Thank you for this gift.” Sounds of shock, disgust, and disappointment echoed through the crowd as the hero stood and walked away. Once again, the Warrior’s luck for finding things had come to play. Sometimes, it wasn’t all that bad to be the hero.
